Syrah supporting sustainable agriculture in Mozambique

Programs include working with smallholder farmers to improve fruit and vegetable production

Syrah has invested over US$4.3 million in education, infrastructure, health programs, agricultural development and sustainable income generation activities (SIGA) in Mozambique.

Syrah’s SIGA Program at Balama continues to support local livelihoods by promoting sustainable income generation in local communities through horticulture, beekeeping, irrigation, and the formalisation of local associations.

The horticulture component of the SIGA program supports smallholder farmers to improve vegetable and fruit production for both household use and local markets. Complementing the horticulture initiative, the irrigation component of the SIGA program focuses on enabling reliable water access for year-round production.

Farmers have supplied over 90 tonnes of horticultural products to local markets and to CIS, Syrah’s catering contractor, since the program’s inception, generating over US$60,000 in income. The initiative continues to improve food security, income generation, and self-sufficiency across participating communities.
